Aspel/Merri/Drake/Ari
The last thing Merri needed right now was to think of the spells he wished he knew, wished that he had taken the time to learn, wished that he had the affinity to learn faster to be of use. Though he had acquired the scrolls for Protect and Shell, he hadn't had the chance yet even to glance at them, not that it would do him any good here and now. So, he had to keep it from his mind as he continued to dualcast Fira upon both the Elementals, though Ari's song, at least, kept him from dwelling on his desire to learn Firaga. His most powerful spells were not useless, and Ari's song helped them be even stronger, and it was no small thing.
His eyes were wild to look for Aspel or Drake so that they did not get caught up in the flight of the spells, but as long as he did not see the shadows of humes against the light of the Elementals, perhaps they were safely out of the way. So he sent the two Fira spells flying towards the Elementals: one took the hit, while the other floated out of the way and attacked Merri with yet another Watera spell.
He grunted against the blow, but the pain was forgotten the instant that he heard the gunshot and Ari's cry of pain. His blood went cold, but relief washed over him when he heard Ari's voice once again. It was then that Merri finally caught Aspel's shadow against the Elemental, and he tried to get his eyes to adjust enough to see exactly what she might be doing, but there was no time for that. He had heard some of the other mages say that offense was the best defense, and right now, that was all he could do to protect his friends: to do his part to see to the defeat of the Elementals as quickly as possible.
Though he couldn't help but to wonder: Elementals did not need to use guns or weapons, as they had their own abilities. Furthermore, they couldn't use them. Where had the gunshot come from? Had that been his imagination? Or was it some trick of the Elementals?
Nonetheless, the Elementals were the enemies he could see; and so, once more, he took to firing two Fira spells, this time, at the Elemental that Aspel did not challenge. Just taking down one would improve all of their chances than two at once, he hoped. Merri prayed that Barwater and Enfire would keep their hold on Aspel until the battle was done in the meantime, and that Drake and Ari were okay, too.
