The riot had all the clinics flooded with people suffering from the aftermath. Audrey was incredibly thankful she hadn’t suffered much of anything but minor bruises. Sitting in her room, she watched the world from outside her window, simply reflecting on Emillion’s condition. The shipments weren’t coming in and food was getting more and more expensive. Yesterday served as a grim reminder of how delicate the balance was. With a sigh, today she was expected to yet again go out and retrieve the groceries she had lost in the riot. Sitting up, she had heard some scuffling up the steps and already she knew something was wrong. One of the girls opened the door. “Audrey, it’s Delilah, she’s not doing well. Something’s wrong with her.”
Not now. The Sapphire’s personal White Mage was on leave attending personal duties. Her family’s business had been ravaged by the rioters so she had left for damage control. Rushing off to Delilah’s room, several other maids were already attending her. The oldest sat by her bedside with her hand on her forehead. As soon as she noticed Audrey, she frowned. “The child’s burning.” Nodding, Audrey stepped out of the doorway. “I’ll go get someone.”
Already she had someone in mind. Cormac hadn’t been by the Sapphire House since the rumors spread and surely he had met Delilah before. Making her way to the Commoner’s District, she reached clinic and entered. “Cormac!” she called out.
