Peony - Tower Library
She was putting away the books she had been perusing in her continued attempts at translation when there was a commotion at the library doors, rising in volume until she really felt it best to direct her attention there. Whatever it was seemed to be getting quite out of hand.
She arrived to behold a young, spooked white mage and a figure in a black robe, carrying a bouquet of flowers. "Councilor, I-"
The figure in the robe turned to her; there was a moment of shock as peony realized the girl - her face oddly familiar - was dead. "Get back," she ordered, ready to cast, but before she could, the girl in the robe crumpled do the ground, flowers still clutched in her hands.
A heartbeat of silence, then the white mage stammered. "She had - she gave - she was carrying - " He reached out to her, holding an envelope. Peony took it and opened it with steady hands. Two words, neat script. And a dead body on the library floor.
It seemed the young boy's sister had been found at last. She would have to find the flier she had kept and contact the family. But that would have to wait.
"Send for Councilor Priddy and the Sage," Peony told him, looking down at the corpse and its flowers. She was not often shaken, but she felt a deep unease. It seemed her part in all of this was quite a bit more public than she had assumed. "I will alert the Knights of the Peace."
