Altair transferred his smile easily to his friend. "Alecta, darling," he said. "How are you this evening?" He glanced around for Athlis, whom he knew couldn't be far behind. "Where's your handsome shadow?" He didn't want to explain that he'd been thinking about Wil, of all people, or the creeping suspicion that he might not be happy in any marriage.
"The Kapurs do know how to turn it out, don't they?" he murmured as he surveyed the room. A servant walked by, and Altair nodded to Alecta's half-empty champagne glass. "Want a refill?"
