Kiernan smirked and pulled out his amulet to call Lucy back to him. As they waited to see her figure looming in the distance, Kiernan patiently let Liyal get his words out, and he tried to decipher them as best as he could.
He hated to think it, but there was a once upon a time when he would've given this guy pure hell for his speech. The fact that Liyal was a mage just added salt to a wound that never quite healed.
"How am I?" He figured that might have been the right question the boy was trying to ask. "Same old, same old, can't complain. Pretty good, really." Apartment hunting and scouting missions over the ocean for the Dragon Riders notwithstanding, of course. "How about you? You doing good?"
Finally, he saw a familiar purple dot incoming, getting larger and larger with each flap of wings. As Lucy neared, Kiernan caught a glint in her eye to indicate that she had either just finished lunch and was very satisfied, or she had been in the middle of it and was now very grumpy. He hoped it was the former, but at least Lucy tended to behave around those Kiernan brought around to visit her, even though her levels of affection varied depending on who it was.
"Here she comes." Now that she was closer, it became more apparent: she had just finished eating, thank Faram.
