Merri smiled lazily, content. "Thank you," he said, sinking back into him. Then the question came out before he could consider it: "What's your mother like?"
Then he realized that perhaps there was a reason he never met her, and that it was a sore enough subject that there was a reason why he didn't know why she was never around. Had she passed away? And while Merri felt like he should take the question back, he was truly curious, and his apology sounded a little forced as he amended, "If... if you don't want to..."
