The serpent was gone, and the crabs and iguions with it, though any stragglers were easily taken care of or soon would be, and all those who had taken up arms on the beach began to pick themselves up, some to drag themselves to a clinic, others to help their companions get to a white mage. Merri's eyes quickly flickered to those he had fought with, relieved to see that most had ended the battle unscathed, except for Aspel, who Drake and Ari now tended to. He felt horrible that he couldn't do more, but now his heart tugged skyward, and there The Love still floated, not moving. During the battle, Merri had taken it as a good sign that the ship was still in the air, but now he worried. He pulled out his network device to try to send a message to the captain, or to Peony, or to her friend, but somewhere along the way it had been damaged or broken or run out of energy or something, which only fueled Merri's growing panic more. He hurried to the nearest white mage clinic back on the docks, wincing as the pain in his ankle shot through the rest of his leg. By the time he reached the area surrounding the clinic, tears brimmed his eyes from the pain, though surely nobody would notice as he still had yet to get dry from the tidal wave, and his heart pounded in fear for what he might find. Sure enough, injured civilians and fighters and mages flooded the white mages who were already here to aid them. Merri kept his eyes open, hoping that he wouldn't find the captain among those who were on gurneys, or even among those who had their wounds patched up easily with a Cura spell. But no, there was not yet sign of him, for which Merri thought he'd be relieved but the fact only added to his fears. Once more, he glanced up at the sky. Surely Peony would have asked the captain to return to the ground by now! Why was it still there? Was someone hurt? Was the captain? He glanced down helplessly at his network device again and closed his eyes, praying that everything was okay. |
