Rictor/Storm/Lille
Before Storm knew it, he was separated from his mentor and his friend. Still, he rushed to help as many people as he could. Before long his limbs were aching. The sun bore down on his back, and the sea salt was unforgiving on his squinted eyes. Only just recovered from last week's events, Storm found that his usual durability was sorely lacking. Drawing strength from willpower alone, he persisted in an almost mechanical reverie. The squire was a lanky automaton staggering against the strength of the waves, which had only grown higher and more pronounced as the creature in the distance fought against the city offensive.
A scream pierced the air. Shaken out of his stupor, Storm turned from left to right. A few feet ahead, there were strange ripples on the surface of the water. The squire waded his way to the disturbance. Suddenly, an Iron Crab rose out of the water, a skinny girl struggling in its grip. Unhesitating, Storm threw out his elbow to strike the Crab in the mouth. More irritated than hurt, the Crab thrashed backwards, unceremoniously dropping the girl. Storm hurried to her immediately, though his eyes never left the fiend. For some reason, it had lost interested in the two of them, retreating back into the water.
Storm returned his attention to the girl. As the pair clumsily made their way to the beach, she seemed like she was about to say something. However, she paused. Eyes widening, she raised a shaky finger to point behind the squire. Storm turned.
A huge wave swallowed both of them.
When the water settled, the girl sputtered, slapping the hair out of her eyes. A ways off, her saviour had been caught under a hulking mass of scrap wood. The hard edge of the large plank had borne down on his spine, and his arm was twisted under him in an awkward angle—too awkward an angle. The girl began to tremble, mouth opening and closing as she struggled to find the voice to call for help. A shadow fell upon her. Raising her eyes, she saw that the Crab from earlier was looming over the fallen squire.
With a last burst of energy, Storm yelled, "Run!" The girl hesitated only a second, then scampered off to join the growing swarms of evacuees.
