"A very... thoughtful approach to life," she said after a moment. Truly, she talked so much that she had come to terms with the fact that most people listened only half the time - that Aspel had gone out to procure what she had named her favorite food when she knew Ari would be over was not the sort of consideration she had expected. Which meant, perhaps, that she had to adjust her expectations, where Aspel was concerned - thoughtfulness seemed to remain a constant even when the other woman chose to be guarded in every other way.
It gave her a twinge of discomfort, though she could not place its source, and thus shoved it aside. It wasn't as if, she reasoned, she didn't do the same thing. It was something she did surprisingly well - listening. At the end of the day, it was what helped to forge connections.
"Well then, by all means, continue." It was not as though she minded being spoiled, after all. "I would be a fool to turn such attentions down." When the bread and cheese were set on the table, she immediately cut herself a slice, spread it with cheese, took a big bite. She knew that she probably should wait, but hunger was gnawing at her insides.
She swallowed before replying to Aspel's admission that she had been out and working. "Is he - he must be all right, if you met. I'm glad of it. There are so many people I should..." She trailed off, thought again of her blinking communicator. The thought was daunting and fairly exhausting. "Maybe after breakfast," she said softly. She would have to make sure everyone was all right, but she couldn't face it yet. "I suppose you will have a great deal of work after this," she mused.
The smell of coffee brewing was beginning to permeate the kitchen, making it easier to shuck off her concerns and smile. "Not quite the evening I expected," she said after a moment, even as she reached to cut herself more bread. "Though the morning exceeds all expectations so far, save the portion where you're limping across the kitchen."
