"Aye, a beast," he said, drawing up memories he was loathe to recall. Theo took a deep breath and let out a drawn sigh. "It brought the fire. An abomination in form, a giant, I know nothing for why it attacked us. But when it was gone--" He shook his head, recalling also the bloody battle that brought down the greatest of the Fighters Guild--the Riskbreaker, as if he was nothing but an insect to be crushed. "When it was gone, this was all that remained."
He shifted his shoulders uncomfortably as Domina rose to claim a different book, watching her with a lost sort of fixedness. Was he truly hoping that she could find an answer, he asked himself? And if she did, where would that leave the both of them? There was nothing for Theo but troubling thoughts. "Religious symbols," he echoed. "Aye?"
At the question of pain, Theo looked down to the brand again. "No danger to the body," he said, shaking his head. "But if there is something that has a hold of me..." The statement drifted out unfinished.
