"Ah, that must be for one of the technology displays," Altair said, nodding. "I plan to watch as many of the competitions and exhibitions as I can. I don't have more than a passing acquaintance with anyone in the technology displays, but they generally prove to be entertaining.
"The play, on the other hand," he went on, "I am acquainted with many of the actors and musicians involved, so I'm obligated to watch, no matter how terrible it turns out. This year it's supposed to be rather good, I'm told."
He realized then that he was being chatty. This wasn't a social visit; they were in a store. "I do go on," he said. "I rather like to talk, but I don't mean to keep you if you have someone expecting you back."
