"But I'm blind?" Quen asked. She took no offense. She was used to it. "I've been blind for most of my life, and I've had to find ways to do the same things other people do with sight. Magic seemed no different in that regard, although it did influence my decision a little bit. Like, I thought about being a blue mage, but they get so close to the action. That seemed so dangerous for me."
She chuckled a bit when Cy asked about the situation that had gotten her grounded. "It was stupid, and dangerous." She'd had an entire month and then some to think about what she'd done, and she had come to agree with the common assessment of the situation. "I heard about the attack on the docks, and since I'd been working on Fire, I thought it would be a good time to practice. I heard it was mostly water monsters, and I knew they would be weak to fire. So I found Chloe, and she agreed to take me to the battle.
"I ended up getting pretty seriously hurt, and I hurt Drake as well." She wasn't sure if Cy knew Drake, but everyone seemed to. "I couldn't aim, and I couldn't control the spell. I'm a lot better at both of those things now, and I know I'm not ready to be in a battle yet, but I wanted to help." No one seemed to understand that she couldn't have just sat back and done nothing.
