Carolina had never desired to join the Mages Guild in any of the cities she'd ever traveled to for work. Her impression of guild mages was that they were mostly law-abiding folk, who occasionally even helped the peacekeepers solve crimes and battle monsters.
She was at the Mages Tower Library briefly, just to see if there was anything new on any of her topics of interest, and to take out a book on the history of a new religion she'd come into contact earlier that week. World religion was a topic of interest to Carolina, and the Mages Tower Library tended to have books that looked at religious practice through a scholarly lens, with a focus on ritual magic.
She found a few tomes, carrying them to a table to flip through before making the decision which to take. A woman was already sitting at the first table she came to, but Carolina didn't intend to bother anyone—she planned only to find what she needed and then to go. She had several other errands to run today, too.
Pulling out the chair diagonal to where the other woman sat, Carolina seated herself and opened the first of the several books she'd chosen, flipping to the table of contents and skimming the topics covered.
