Who: Loch Lemach, NPC Peacekeepers.
What: Disappearing act.
Where: Warehouse District.
When: Five days ago.
Rating: PG
Status: Complete
Righteous lawfulness was a difficult trait to hide in the Warehouse district, most honorable home of thieves of all kinds. From cutpurses to merchants, all could smell it from miles away, so used were they to sidestepping its demands. The Knights of the Peace did not need their characteristic armor to stand out like a sore thumb: their profession was in the way they walked, like they owned the district, in the way they looked around the street, not with the thief's speculative eye ever ready for an unexpected business opportunity but with the look of one who laments carrying only one set of handcuffs. As they passed, all residents of the district hastened to find their long-suppressed better natures to avoid being fitted for that iron, but it is an unnecessary concern. It is not their wrists those handcuffs will adorn. They are meant for the owner of the humble office between Madam Wu's Silk Imports and Warehouse 407. Had Loch Lemach been less paranoid, less convinced of the authorities' diligence and perseverance, perhaps the Peacekeepers would have found her there, sitting behind her desk. Instead, they found screams of Fire! and a column of smoke climbing into the afternoon sun, and a chaos of dockhands and merchants trying to contain the flames and salvage the goods in the nearest buildings before the fire spread. It was several hours before the chemically-fueled fire was extinguished. Inside the modest office, little remained that had not been turned to ashes or reduced to nothing by spilled acid from the empty flasks that littered the floor of the secret workshop underneath it. As they sifted through the rubble, Ser Kent and his partner cursed so loudly and creatively that, for a moment, they were almost in harmony with the spirit of the district. Their handcuffs hung forlornly from their belts. By then, Loch Lemach was already miles away. |
The missing piece of the bank heist puzzle By H. Larsen Early this morning, following a two-month investigation into the attempted robbery of the Royal Bank of Ivalice that took place in [month], Emillion's Knights of the Peace searched the docks district for Loch Lemach (31), assistant to the harbormaster and accomplished Machinist of the Bards' Guild, believed to be the behind-the-scenes magic-worker who supplied the band of thieves with the means necessary to bypass the Bank's security measures, according to the declarations of D. Insp. K. Flaubert: "We have obtained irrefutable evidence of Miss Lemach's participation in the affair. The Knights of the Peace will see to it that she is brought to justice." So far, Flaubert's promise remains unfulfilled. Far from joining her fellow thieves at the King's prison, Lemach seems to have disappeared entirely from the city. Her residence has been found empty, and her less-known office in the warehouse district, which the authorities say may have contained further damning evidence, was at the heart of the fire that destroyed several warehouses yesterday afternoon before being contained. Nothing of value has so far been recovered from the ashes, though the search is ongoing. The authorities were seen questioning Harbormaster Philip Lanstrum, Lemach's employer and surrogate family. Despite his relation to the suspect, Lanstrum claims he had "no knowledge that anything [...] (cont. Page 3) |
