James hid something of a grin at Ceres's annoyance. She was easy to rile, and sometimes he considered purposely antagonizing her for his own amusement. Typically, his more rational mind prevailed during these considerations.
At Nessa's arrival, the monk smiled at the bird and nodded at its hume companion. It was an example of his natural inclination to find animals more pleasant companions than other people.
Unlike Cyrus, James did not have the social awareness to allow the ladies to go first in picking their breakfasts. When there was an opening, he reached into the box and grabbed one of the not-so-sweet offerings. "Thank you, Eden," he said. He was not entirely without manners. Or gratitude, apparently.
Cyrus's suggestion garnered a nod, and James waited for the others to indicate their readiness to move out.
