Eden laid on her stomach wrapped in the sheets. She’d brought him back to her place now the he’d lived with people. It wasn’t that she minded them. She just wanted to be considerate and made it so that they didn’t have to listen to hear her. If she was going to be gone for a while, even if James was coming along, she wanted to enjoy herself fully in a bed, without restrictions. So, she had been quite long through their lovemaking. Whether he loved her or not was immaterial, she took the physical connection quite seriously, but not to the point of trying to define what they had. Currently, she was sated. Her blonde hair matted to her forehead and her limbs felt like they were noodles attached to the rest of her. It was great. She wanted to bask in that feeling, just something above and away from the world but closer to it than when she hadn’t hit the peak of euphoria. Unfortunately, her mind was working against her, demanding to push her into planning things for the weeks, possibly months to come. It was a little weird. He wasn’t sure he’d ever been taken to a chick’s place to bang her before. Not that he was complaining, getting away from Cormac’s place, especially with Ridley there, was probably the best idea either of them could have had all night. The last thing he needed in the morning was either knowing looks, or looks of annoyance from Cormac, and potentially confused, or concerned questions from Ridley. That kid was just too sweet and innocent for her own good it seemed. Though, those thoughts could be saved for another time. Especially, after all the fun he’d just had. Admittedly, Darius really didn’t know almost anything about this chick, but every time they’d spent any time together, he’d had a good time, and really, wasn’t that what mattered? He was still a young guy, and now he was making decent money… Didn’t he deserve to just have fun? Shifting, he allowed a hand to run over the curve of the woman’s body next to him. “So you’re heading out soon, yeah? Hope it’s not for anything too serious.” He didn’t really know exactly what it was for, or if she’d even want to talk about it, but… Well… He didn’t really know much of what else to ask about anyway, and she’d let him know if it wasn’t a topic to discuss…. Or at least he hoped she would. "Yes," Eden sighed. She enjoyed the hum of her body beneath his touch. She tingled everywhere his skin made contacts with hers. "I think I'll be out for a long while. The city isn't the only place the monster's attacked. A lot of the regular creatures in the area have moved into the villages. They're also bandits running around taking advantage of them. When we get all that cleared up, we can head back here," she said as she rolled onto her back. She looked up at him and smiled. His eyes were so beautiful. "I haven't been that far out since..." She paused in remembering that he was a white mage, then continued. "Since the outbreak last fall." She'd gotten terribly sick during the entire thing. "I caught it, you know? Upped all over the sidewalk. My partner swore I was pregnant. I was upset at the time, but it's kind of funny to think back on it now." “That sounds like a lot of trouble.” Really, it was, but… Was the city any better? With all the people leaving as of late…. Well. It was hard for anyone, especially the fighters right now. Though, her comments about the disease… His muscles tightened. “Yeah.” A beat passed by. “A lot of people caught it.” Another pause. “It was really bad.” What else could he say about it? ‘Yeah, I wanted to help but I was fucking useless.’ “That sounds like it sucked.” Eden didn't miss the sudden tightening of his muscles. Maybe he'd lost someone and she'd struck a chord there. Her fingers slipped between his and she gave it a squeeze, waiting patiently for him to look at her again. "It was terrible," she said softly. "I had already made peace with the gods by the time the cure was finally found." She pressed her lips to the back of his hand. "I was lucky, even if I don't know why." She let out a sigh. "Did it take someone close to you?" “I.” Darius really didn’t want this fucking conversation, didn’t want it at fucking all, but…. What the hell was he supposed to say? He suddenly felt ridiculously trapped but…”Didn’t lose anyone to this one, no.” Who was the last person he’d even remotely mentioned anything about his father to? “I was working on the cure team.” His adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed. “A lot of people died before we got there.” And really, what else could he say? It wasn't hard to see that it was difficult for him to talk about and Eden thought about how she'd probably taken it a little too far with the questioning. They'd only really slept together a few times, but it didn't stop her heart from twisting when she saw how unhappy he was. Then he said he hadn't lost anyone and she became a little confused. He'd worked on the cure team, however. Then he'd said it. The one thing that she felt she understood on a different level. He was a healer, but she was protector. "We can only do what we are able," she said more to herself than to him. She'd lost many friends on field of battle. She could not watch all their backs. "Do you want another drink?" For a moment he paused, wanting to reject the offer, but after a moment, he gave a nod. “Yeah, sure. Pour me another.” Because really, fuck it. Who the hell needed to be sober tonight anyway? “Gonna join me for another round?” Eden grabbed the bottle and almost took the glass along with it, but he'd suggested another round. So instead, she laid back onto the bed again and poured a little bit of the wine in the dip of her belly button. She looked up at him, meeting his blue eyes with her brown and smiled. |
