Ash nodded. “Staying alive in this damned city seems to be a full time job.” And one that it seemed like people couldn’t exactly keep up with. Her little vacation had reminded her what calm looked like, and while things were fine right now, she couldn’t get rid of the itch in her shoulderblades that prevented her from completely relaxing.
“A friend?” Well, at least the kid wasn’t hers. She didn’t know the machinist all that well, but she’d never seemed like the kid type. Hell, she couldn’t think of a single person in the damn Guild who seemed like a kid type except Neil. “I haven’t seen him - just heard you were toting him around. I’m sure he’s cute, though. Seems like kids that age usually are.”
"Oh, well, if you ever want to see him, you just let me know," Chloë said, though she doubted that Ash would show much interest in the baby save for this passing conversation. "And they usually are. They're actually easiest at this age, I think. But then again, when they start running around and driving their parents insane with their mischief, it can be quite amusing." Chloë grinned wickedly, and looked forward to see what sort of trouble Zevran would get himself into. Granted, she'd probably be there going crazy alongside Rhys.
She tucked some of her hair behind her ears, gazing out onto the ocean, "If he were in an orphanage, he'd probably be snatched up right away at this age." People didn't come to orphanages looking for older children. They wanted babies. Personal experience taught her that.
“I’ll pass, thanks,” Aisling laughed. She liked kids well enough, but tended to keep her interactions with them limited to Neil’s and orphans. “I’ve never really had much experience with babies, so I’ll take your word for it. Neil wouldn’t let me hold any of his - afraid I’d drop them.” She’d ended up dropping the metal pan she’d been holding on his foot.
“I think it’s time for a swim,” she announced. “Feel free to hang out if you want - better in the shade than the sun.”
Chloë was grateful for Ash being kind enough to let her remain in the shade. She looked to Ash, "I think I'll take you up on that offer. Shady places are only here if you bring them along. Enjoy your swim." She smiled at the other woman before turning to look out at the sea. It really was a beautiful day, and she'd likely be able to rob half the people here and they would have no idea until they got home.
If Chloë did decide to go pilfering for goodies, she'd make sure to avoid Ash's things, and anyone else she would rather keep as a friendly acquaintance. Those that knew who she was would come looking at her first. Besides, what was the fun in getting caught?
