It was no tavern debauch, nothing at all like the type of raucous celebration that Mag tended to find herself in on special occasions, but for all the unfamiliar faces and carefully orchestrated dances, she could not have imagined a better way to celebrate the engagement. The evening was already a success from the moment Vivi had walked in next to Duke Reinholdt with a smile of pure happiness on her face. This was no Orsinio, no machination wrought by the elder Countess Albrecht. This was what Vivi wanted, and Mag could not have felt happier for her. She and Aspel had wasted no time, at the start of the afternoon, in greeting and congratulating their hosts, but the conversation had been cut short by the expectations of other guests waiting to do the same thing, and so it was not until early in the evening that Mag made her way back to her friend to congratulate her once more. "May I propose a toast?" She held up her flute of champagne with a smile. "To Genevieve Albrecht, soon to be the most gorgeous and charming bride even born to the Valendian continent." Genevieve smiled, but lifted her own flute, gently clinking it against her friend’s. “Thank you,” she said, “though I do believe there are brides far more gorgeous than I. Perhaps not nearly as charming, though.” She shrugged, an innocent expression on her face. “Have you been enjoying yourself?” she asked after a moment. "I have," Mag said. "I find your engagement parties are far more enjoyable when I don't have to resort to plotting ways to get you out of the Grand Cathedral on your wedding day to keep myself from punching your fiancé." She chuckled. "We had a good plan, you know. It involved dragons and shining armor." She hid her laugh in her champagne flute. Although the crowd had begun to thin, there were still those about who would no doubt attempt to listen in. “You shall have to tell me about this plan of yours, though I’m fortunate enough that it was unnecessary.” She was especially curious about the dragon; had she managed to bring Kiernan or Lavitz in on her plan? “I am glad that this party is one that you are able to enjoy.” It had scarcely been less than a year ago that she had been at another engagement party for herself, and there was little good to remember from that night. "As long as you're enjoying it, I can't think of a better party in the world," Mag told her friend, smiling. |
