“That is so unfair,” Ari complained. The baby had become far more interesting to her now that his origins were shrouded in mystery. “I’ll find out, you know.” And she would, too. There were not so many men for whom Chloë would keep secrets from one of her closest friends. She had no doubt she could ferret out which one it had been if only she thought about it for a little while…
“Well, since you won’t tell, I guess I have no choice but to suggest we find some champagne and dessert. And milk for your little date… I’m sure the Countess would be pleased to provide.”

"Oh, I'm sure you will," Chloë said, "but until then, you will have to live without knowing." She only wished she could be there to witness the reaction of her friend when she did find out that the baby belonged to none other than Rhys. Oh, the look on her face! But alas, chances are Chloë might not be around for that conversation.
At the mention of champagne and dessert, Chloë happily agreed, "Oh, but of course. But let's limit my champagne to just one glass. I don't think I could afford to buy you another pair of replacement shoes."
