The tables were meticulously set - the ones for the guests, and the ones for the food. It had been a brief discussion on whether or not to have waitstaff (Alys' and Basil's engagement party had had it, but then, neither of them had been marrying a widow, nor were either them the eccentric Spymaster of the shadowy Thieves' Guild), but ultimately, the decision had been made to forgo them almost entirely. Instead, tables were set along the wall, and the clocks and frames that hung above it opened discreetly for the few servants that had been hired for the event to refill the menu items, almost as if by magic.
It had been a difficult endeavor to fulfill the expectations of both their stations and places. Reinholdt, a duke, one that had not yet married, and Genevieve, a countess, who was a widow. Surely it gave the planners quite a fuss; a widow's second marriage ought to be downplayed, but it was the duke's first marriage, which ought to be accompanied by what should amount to a parade! A tea party - one hosted at the duke's own estate, no less - was not the planners first choice, but it had been the best compromise.
After all, Duke Reinholdt was quite renown for his whimsy, and Genevieve Albrecht would ensure that the appropriate pomp and circumstance was present.
Now that the preparations were complete and the day had arrived, the host and hostess milled about the entrance, waiting to greet their guests as they arrived, and willing to the look the other way to those who had not been invited.
