"In the Outlands, you know what wants to kill you. Here? You can't tell. Look at what happened with the Sage. Who expected that? People think the Outlands are unpredictable. But it's only because they like to believe they can let their guard down here. But that's a foolish wish," James answered. What it came down to was that James didn't trust people, and the city was full of them. Somehow the deception and cruelty seemed to increase in groups. The Ranger could trust a person, but people? Not really.
"Well, I have no intention of getting trapped in one of the squares. I might find a perch somewhere." He shrugged, not particularly committing to such a plan, after all.
