It was beautiful, yes, but Violet wasn't quite as drawn to it as she might have been in another setting. Something or someone had killed many people for this golden thing. Or, she considered darkly, the artefact had been the cause of all the mayhem; Violet knew that just because it was Holy didn't mean it wasn't dangerous.
The three men lifted and Violet kept close watch. From their strain, it was clear that the artefact was heavy. "We will take breaks as necessary to get it to safety and not exhaust you," Violet said to them, not entirely unkindly. She was certain there was no way they'd manage walking this thing all the way back to Emillion without a few breaks in between. She figured the men wouldn't take well to such an expression, but also didn't care if she offended them by being entirely reasonable.
As they began to move slowly, Violet considered the space around them. She craned her neck and trained her eyes on dark spots where shadows lurked. If they were to be attacked, it could come from any angle. "Ladies," she addressed Lex and Siri together, "if you'd please move to the front. I need one of you keeping an eye on the terrain for the gentlemen. Warn them of steps, please. The other, keep watch for attack. Both of you, weapons ready." It was as natural as any other mission and Violet almost felt glad to be able to dole out orders so easily. She moved to the back, figuring she was strong and experienced enough to protect their rear. The dank air was heavy and Violet sliced through it as if to ward it off before following the team.
