She found herself rather glad when he went for the teapot again. His most recent statement - really, sometimes she wondered if knight training entailed learning to say something in as few words as possible - had her more curious than ever. She wondered how long he had known Aspel, for him to seem so sure - and for her to seem so wary. She thought this was a question best saved for Aspel herself; in the right situation, she thought she might get a straightforward answer, and it would not even involve a bribe.
She took another bite of pie, then asked, nonchalantly as she could, "And what preferences do you believe her to have?" The point was moot, really, considering her situation, but she couldn't help her curiosity all the same. When she had asked Aspel this question - in a rare moment of almost-honesty on the network - she had gotten a rather vague and watered-down answer. His, she sensed, might be a bit more illuminating, if of course he chose to answer at all.
