"I took the damage well enough for him to hire me." That hadn't been his goal when he entered the arena, but it was his original rebuttal to Altair's questioning of his worth. He supposed it was only right that things would fall into place, regardless of his approach. "Your word helped," he said with an appreciative nod, remembering the comments Divina had made to attest his experience and skill.
Once several minutes passed, he took the teapot and cups (both of them) to the table, leaving Divina to her devices on the other side of the kitchen counter. "Do you know the nobleman?" He asked in an attempt to learn more of his current employer, and poured himself some tea. He and Divina continued their conversation in this nonchalant fashion, the quiet space of the adjoined areas readily carrying their voices to each other. Over the bubbling of the sauce, Li detailed the Unholy Sacrifice that had helped slash through his arm, subtly reiterating Jareth's status as a Fell Knight as they discussed the effects of the Darker abilities.
The one person in Emillion other than Aspel and Jareth that knew of his former affiliation was his ward. That knowledge came only because Li had taken in the boy years ago, when the Guard was still renowned as staunch and righteous despite the Dark they nearly embodied. As their reputation began to crumble with word spreading of the devastation left in their wake, the Guard did everything it could to stay hidden in the shadows, unnoticed and forgotten by the rest of society. After all, few were so bold as to face the Dark willingly.
Divina was one, although Li considered her judgment clouded over with her deluded opinion of him, and held back by her own reservations. Nevertheless, the Onyx Guard had their place in history, however small it was. A team of Fell Knights organized like Holy Knights often were had been unprecedented. If Divina managed to piece together the small truths hidden in the wide chasms of what he did not say, then so be it.
When she walked over to the dining table to serve him, Li set down his cup and gestured to the other chair. "Will you have dinner with me, Divina?"
