Cormac had been mulling over the prospect of it even before the attacks. Having a live in assistant was much more convenient than waiting for her to come back from the tower. If he were honest, he had just grown so used to the close proximity they'd shared during the outbreak. He actually enjoyed having the scholar around his home. While he did pay her, he gave her liberties he hadn't with Cyclone and just chalked it up to her being a child, while his former assistant was a woman. He had higher expectations of the Synergist than the scholar and it was the little scholar who had surprised him with her constitution and ingenuity. The news of people being hostile toward her hadn't sit very well with him at all. In fact, he had half a mind to have them removed in way or another, but it was happening all over the city. He could understand the fear of mages and magic. Smaller minds couldn't really grasp the complexity it took to perform spells. How many years did it take and to wield that monster. No, that monster had been wielding her, much like the one in his dreams kept attempting to wear him down. Had it been the same? That was a thought for another time. Now, he waited in his office, food sprawled over his desk. It had been food he'd ordered for himself and Emily. He just wanted to check if she was fine with the arrangement he was going to propose to the girl before actually asking. If there was anything his fiancée taught him, it was that surprises were horrible when they came in the shape of people. |
