Plotting the demise of your parents' illustrious position proved difficult even to Emily. While her parents were unaware of how meticulous their daughter was in the art of revenge, she did learn from them in how to be that way. She didn't know all their tricks, and despite the rumors surrounding them and her mysterious death a few years ago, not a single thing really gained any sort of traction. Her parents played the politics game well and given more recent events, it put a halt in her plan. White mage or not, the pain she endured still was not a pleasurable experience for the time she did have it. Dinner with her parents tonight was quieter than usual. No comments on Cormac, but definitely a few pointed remarks about mages. Their daughter, after all, was a mage. But nothing outright rude or offensive, just questions as to the state of mages and how dangerous they could be. Emily grew tired of the conversation and feigned a headache in order to leave her. They accepted it and she retired to her room. The room absent of Cormac and filled with meaningless objects that sat upon shelves. Pointless trinkets and jewels. They were of worth and had value to her, but many of the items were childhood gifts that held no significance to her other than for show. Things had to change. Soon. So used to functioning on her own, Emily was coming to the conclusion that she couldn't do this alone. Calling upon Cormac, as much as she wanted to, could lead to trouble and if things went south, she wanted to protect him from what she might do, not embroil him in it. She needed a thief or someone who knew their way through city politics. Many people could do that, but this sort of plan required someone she could trust. Emily didn't trust many, if anyone, at all. Secrets were her game and she kept them to herself, well hidden and unspoken of. So careful she went about her business, so particular in the way she did things, all the maintain this facade she worked so hard to craft. Years of hard work could fall to shambles with one loosened tongue. But who? She couldn't think of a single person she would entrust herself to than the very person she did not wish to involve. Whoever she might talk to would see her for who she really was. Well, not entirely. But they would know that Emily Miliona was not the kind sweet woman who gave so much and accepted little in return. She was a woman who wanted certain things and would go to great lengths to obtain that. And once more the question remained: who? |
