With the violence and tragedies of the previous week still hanging thick in the air, this holiday had proven to be a more solemn affair than any other observation of this holiday in recent memory. Mass had been held as it always had been regardless, by the clear insistence of the Cardinal who had appeared to the public in a surprisingly significant manner. His Holiness had decided it appropriate to give this year's sermon, and had sought to make his sympathies and wishes clear to those who had come. Those who would volunteer their time in aid to the city would have his blessing, and Cardinal Belmondt urged the followers of Pharist faith to help and care for their neighbors in this troubled time. The attempt at comfort and reassurance to the city had been clearly presented and deeply noted. The city, however, remained in a profound state of trial. Buildings and streets in disrepair, friends and family members missing or found deceased. Hearts were heavy on this holiday, and the sorrow and confusion continued to resonate throughout each district. While King Weyland had sent his Kingsguard to sweep the streets days before, ensuring that no monsters lingered within the city's walls, and as Parliament sought to quickly draft laws to fortify and reconstruct, the wounds to Emillion would take time to heal. And the Mages Tower, there at the very heart of the city, remained the most ailing of all. Battered by violence, stripped apart at its very foundation, and now, without a figurehead to guide it through the crisis, none could claim to know what the future had in store. However, the Feast of Holy Saints did bring with it a subtle, but enduring sense of hope. That even when all seemed lost, a miracle could still be gained. |
