Over the last few months, there had been a number of occasions on which Ari had insisted on being carried up those exact stairs. On those occasions, there had been laughter, anticipation, pleasure, and neither of them had walked as gingerly as old women whose bones were too fragile. Because the answer was maybe not but the thought of a real bed was incredibly appealing (and because she suspected the only way that Aspel would sleep in a bed would be if Ari herself slept there with her), Ari put on her most carefree expression -- all of her acting could not make it less strained around the edges -- and said, “I’m certain I can, with a bit of patience. it isn’t my best virtue, but let’s see how I fare, shall we? But only,” she warned, “if you’re coming with me.” A soft smile arose, one weighed upon with the responsibility that was hers alone to bear. “I fear I have a few things more that require my attention here yet.” The message she’d sent to Drake, and his vague response - which had spiked worry in her gut - still rang through her head, leaving nothing more than a haunting echo in its wake. “If you wish to begin up, I assure I shall not be up before too long.” "Well then," it was a bit more challenging than anticipated to find an available crate, but she plopped herself down on the nearest clear surface, slumping a bit as she finished, "I'll just wait here for you until you're done. It will give me a moment or two to catch my breath." And hopefully to appease the dull, persistent pain in her leg. The bard’s desire to remain seated down here - amongst the wounded, and potentially dying - earned a slight frown before a brief nod of her head was given, and the look was dismissed. “As you wish.” A worried glance was given to Ari then, before it was turned - once more - upon the door. Faram, how she hoped Drake would arrive soon. “I’ll keep busy,” Ari promised, withdrawing her communicator from her pocket as she settled in. Her thoughts ran along a very similar vein. For the next short while, they would rest, hope, and wait. |
