“I mostly know that this’ll help lessen my debt to her,” Stone admitted. “Whatever it is, it can’t be worse than things have been lately.” Whenever she brought up the murders, the pale young woman always felt an impulse to look over her shoulder. That wouldn’t do if she was working, so instead, she closed her eyes and exhaled. “I didn’t expect to work with someone around my age, unless you’re one of those people that don’t get old from the storybooks.”
It was funny: as much as the thief hated authority, she often ended up working with adults. The majority of the time, they didn’t end up being the authoritative type, of course, but it was an odd discrepancy nonetheless. Giving Nate a sideways glance, she spoke, “What do we need to do, anyway? Just curious.”
