The Ruby, that’s where she said she was. Under the cloak of Vanish, Audrey was able to quickly scamper through the city—sticking to the ground rather than to risk potentially falling down through a caving roof. From safehouse to safehouse, she went through in a meager attempt to rescue Genevieve’s lost artifacts, and perhaps give them to those in need. Turning on a familiar street, she reached the Ruby. The woman who opened the door wasn’t familiar, but seemed to recognized her, leading the blonde to the whereabouts of her sister. From her seat in a padded booth, Juliette looked up from her dinner blearily at the person who approached the table, realizing after a moment that it was… “Alys?” She would have stood from her seat if she weren’t so tired. Instead, she looked her sister over with worried eyes, asking, “Are you all right?” (As opposed to the more-apropos what are you doing here; she hoped they would not have to argue tonight.) “Fine,” she spoke in a sigh of relief. In a few quick steps she was next to her sister, embracing her in a hug. “I’m glad you’re alright,” she mumbled, holding on a little longer than she normally would. Taking a seat next to her, her eyes scoured her face and body for any visible damage. The monk seemed alright, if not just tired. “I brought you something,” Audrey looked away digging through her satchel. Pulling out a jade collar and a potion, she set them on the table, sliding them over to Juliette. “Try to stay out of trouble. But if you run into it,” she paused, “Use these.” The hug had been returned, hesitantly at first and then with greater strength behind the embrace, and when Alys moved to sit, Juliette moved over to give her room. She was about to offer food -- there seemed to be enough here to feed a besieged fortress for a few days (very odd, this place and its proprietress both) -- but then the items slid across the table, and her eyes widened as she beheld the oddly-shaped green necklace. “What is this?” she asked. “I found it,” she was quick to reply. “It’s a jade collar. It should help you avoid. Wear it, please.” Audrey looked back through the door she came from, her hand gripping Juliette’s. “I have to go. I can’t stay here long. I just came to make sure you were safe. Send me messages on your whereabouts, ok?” Audrey moved to stand up. If the answer seemed a bit too convenient, Juliette didn’t think of it, taking the necklace in hand and obediently clasping it around her neck. “I will.” And Alys, it seemed, had made her peace with Juliette’s participation in the battle. She was grateful -- but how to say it? She offered a tremulous smile, a hopeful, “There’s food, before you go. If you want. You could stay, a little while.” Audrey’s eyes drifted down to the plate Juliette had been picking at. A sick twist of her stomach, and Audrey shook her head. “No,” she mumbled. “I’m alright, sorry. Be safe.” Without further words, she walked on through back into fray. |
