Elementals were things Jareth avoided when possible - they weren’t immune to physical damage, but it was a damn near thing. Magic had never been a strong suit of his, and the only abilities he had imbued with any element were off limits to him. But the one thing he knew was that they always started with the same attack - Silence. He could feel the spell settling over him, robbing him of any speech. That was fine - he didn’t need it. What he needed to do was lead the damn thing away, towards a mage who could deal with it. Goal in mind, he swung his ax at the elemental to get its attention. It felt weird, having what was holding him down off of him, and Sky felt worlds lighter. He groaned as he lifted himself up, but no sound came out, and his alertness came back to him in a panic. Was he deaf now? Mute? Deaf and mute? But Pyr’s mentor, Jareth, was busy fighting the big shiny blob of light and rocks (he had seen that right) and Sky didn’t really know what to do but as Jareth had said: stay put. It was really cool watching him swing his ax at the thing, and like he had with Arwel, Sky wanted to help somehow. But when he tried to move his arm to one of his daggers, he made a screaming motion -- would have screamed if he wasn’t Silenced -- from the pain. Well, now what? That was when the Elemental made its attack. Flames came from the orb, and Sky immediately fell into a fetal position from the additional pain. Jareth managed to block the worst of the flames from reaching the kid, but he hadn’t been quick enough. Still, he’d done what he could. This time when he attacked, the Elemental’s attention went where it needed to be - on Jareth. One last glance at the kid, and Jareth took off. There had been mages a few block away, working together to take down an Adamantitan; if he could load off the Elemental there, it would be better. Mages were better equipped to deal with the damn things than a fighter was. Blizzara nipped his heels and he stumbled, but stayed standing, focused. He rounded the corner and practically ran right into one of the mages he’d seen earlier. The mage yelled “Duck!” and Jareth obliged. Aerora went over his head, hitting the Elemental, who cast Silence. The mages continued to cast. Jareth turned around and ran back to where he’d left Sky. “It’s… it’s gone?” Sky asked, trying to sit up again. “You… beat it?” He nodded - the spell may have worn off on Sky, but Jareth had been hit with a second one. He needed to get the kid out of here, get him to Pyr. He knelt down, careful of Sky’s injuries as he lifted him up. Once the kid was settled on his back, he started the trek to Lyndwyrm. |
