After opening the door to the office, crossbow in hand, to investigate the source of the commotion outside—digging into her concentration, making it impossible to focus on the design in front of her—Loch Lemach had exactly ten seconds to identify the source as a giant Golem-like beast tearing through the warehouse district and get out of the way of said beast, before it reached down and created a new entrance to her office, where a wall had previously been.
The image played in her head over and over as she ran away, under the veil of Vanish, first down streets and then on rooftops of buildings that still retained such architectural features. Her district had been swarmed—but as she ran away, she found the trouble was everywhere, no escape possible as the city was overrun by monsters.
And their chief stood at the center of a vortex of destruction, making the ground and buildings shake. Loch's footing slipped, and she almost fell off the side of the building to her death. Managing to right herself at the last moment, she saw the giant beast and remembered the other one, with its poisonous aura, months ago, and let out a string of curses. Once had been enough—but now she was caught up in a similar situation, and this time, Chiaro was nowhere to be seen.
But there was a man, a Dragoon by the looks of it, who looked like the likeliest candidate to hide behind. She could not avoid the monsters altogether—only go somewhere other people would draw more attention than her. As the building shook beneath her again, she clambered down to ground down a battered emergency stairway, came to stand beside him.
Her Tools were in the pouch around her waist, at least; she stepped out of her veil and focused a blinding Flash of light at the monster, for elemental damage. Overhead, she heard the roar of a wyvern. Better be friendly, she thought, or we're all dead.
