The statements about her exam -- expected niceties at this stage of her training -- were met with a pleased smile and a lowering of her eyes. Oh, she hoped it was not just politesse -- she so badly wanted to pass.
The questions about the man who was to marry her sister were expected at this point; her answer was immediate, polite, and lacking in detail: "Lord Norwood is a very pleasant company. He has been unfailingly kind to me." And that would certainly be enough, wouldn't it?
"Have you seen Alys yet?" she inquired. "I am certain you know how busy she has been with preparations for the wedding." She had felt a bit of it, after all, so certainly Chloë had as well.
