It had been since he was still in formal training that Merrion had spent an entire week in the casting room or in the library, doing little else aside from practicing or studying his new spells. There was little comfort in knowing the progress he was making on them; it was not as fast as whenever he was learning black magic, and he knew that he needed to be as patient with himself as he was with the students he occasionally taught but it was difficult, even now after having the captain's reassurances. But today, his concern wasn't on how slow the new spells were coming along; he barely made it to the lunch hour before he decided that he had been cooped up in the tower long enough, and it was time to go out and see what the world of Emillion had to offer today.
He dressed lightly, for it was warm these days, and he made his way to the Bazaar for there was seldom a shortage of anything to do there. There were a handful of pieces of paper floating about -- the flyers from yesterday, Merrion noted with a tinge of sadness. He saw one posted in the tower and a couple more on his way here. He bought flowers from that girl once, flowers he never had the urge to give to his intended recipient, and he hoped that she'd be found soon.
With his eyes still glued to the stray papers, he walked straight into a lamppost. Merrion stumbled back and rubbed his head. Where did that come from? With a sidestep, he tried to go past it but, so concentrated on checking his forehead for any forming bumps, wound up running straight into someone else.
