The timing of her return had not been intentional. In fact, it couldn't have been more off. And yet, here she was: Scarlet Beau, daughter of Etienne, the late Holy Knight. He had accomplished much during his lifetime; an amount that Scarlet never expected to exceed, even with a different skill set and looser moral standards. But enough about the deceased -- now was about the living. Her mother had fallen ill, and while she had made the mistake of losing her father without closure, she had a redeeming chance with her mother. Not that Scarlet was here to atone for anything -- she wasn't -- but if her mother was going to pass (and they all did eventually), Scarlet would do everything in her power to make it as comfortable as possible. With nothing more than her Deathbringer and a small dufflebag, Scarlet walked down the familiar cobblestone path that would lead her home. She didn't plan to stay there for more than a day. After all, she didn't belong in the home where she grew up, Scarlet was someone different now. She would find her own temporary place to stay until her mother passed. And then, Scarlet would move on as well. At least that was the plan. Fireworks went off as she approached the Beau residence and, for a brief moment, Scarlet second guessed herself. She didn't belong here, back at her hometown, where she had left by choice. A decision made because of her father's stubbornness and her mother's silence. The candle in her parents', no, mother's window had been snuffed out. Scarlet didn't doubt that her mother would be happy to see her, but now was not the time. She walked down further to find an inn to stay for the night. This could wait until the morning. Until the new year. Emillion and her mother could wait one more night. |
