Ari/Aspel/Drake | Throughout the Evening | Theatre District
With Ari suddenly chiming in regarding her own desires for a fortune being read, and pushing the money forward, Aspel thought to tell her to put it away. Yet, at the same time, Ari offered to pay for so little that it was likely she’d fight this one until she won the argument tooth and nail. With the faintest huff of air, and a bow of her head, Aspel took the gil before offering it out to the woman, with a brief gesture back towards the three of them to indicate a fortune for each. “Bitte sehr.” With that the vendor took the gil and began going through the motions of the act.
“Thank you.” Came a low murmur, before Aspel shifted, tearing her eyes away from the woman as she began to prep to briefly press her lips against Ari’s cheek to punctuate the words before her eyes shifted back. It would take a moment of watching before her eyes began to light up again.
“She shall heat the metal upon a spoon to its melting point,” Aspel leaned in towards the bard, not quite whispering, but with her voice lowered as she shared the information with both Ari and Drake, “before it is deposited into the bowl. The texture and shape of the cooled metal then are used to tell of one’s fortune within the new year.” Emotions of awkwardness and joy battled it out for dominance inside of the smith but… With three drinks in her already, it was easy to ignore the awkwardness - mostly - and allow the joy to be more present than not.
It took a bit for the first pour of molten metal to be dropped into the bowl, the water it floated in - briefly - before starting to sink, sizzled, a waft of steam rising up. Another few seconds passed before it was fetched out, held up for a moment as the woman squinted at it before placing it off to the side and starting with the second. The actions were quicker this time, the spoon already hot, and the third seemed to go even smoother than the first two. However, it would not be until all three shapes were finished, and presented out to each person before her for them to take - a cart for Aspel, an acorn for Ari, and a jug for Drake - that the woman did speak.
First she looked at Drake, using the same language she’d used with Aspel just moments before, and the smith only let a beat fall before beginning to chime in, summarizing for the woman. “She claims that yours represents good health within the new year.” A soft smile was granted to Drake, something genuinely pleased in her eyes at the positive outcome of his fortune, as silly as it may be. Next the woman gestured towards Ari, a glance at Aspel and a brief question, the smith simply shook her head no. With that the woman nodded, and began to speak once again in the tongue she shared with Aspel before. Letting her get a ways in, Aspel then began to explain. “An acorn, means improvement in health, continued health, and strength.”
Once done there, her gaze turned upon Aspel, an almost apologetic smile offered before the vendor began to speak once more, and the smith’s own smile as she listened turned a bit tight. It wasn’t until she was finished speaking that Aspel finally offered a brief “Danke sehr.” Before giving another bow of her head, and gesturing with her hand for them to head on.
“I do believe our destination was in this direction, no?”
Ari gave Aspel a curious look, but chose not to comment. Perhaps she would ask later, but she wanted to maintain a pleasant mood for the evening. So she simply smiled, as though she had not a single care in the world, and said, “Yes, this way.”
