Nathaniel 'Creepster Hermit' Porter (techmech) wrote in emillion,
"Do you do much work with potions?" Most healers Nate had met at least dabbled, and could sometimes be persuaded to teach him a thing or two.
Mostly, when Nate had said 'people in common', what he'd really meant was the guild. He couldn't quite tell whether Ari was a guildmate or not - she didn't look the type, but she was a bard, and they needed to look at least somewhat respectable. A few of the things she said also hinted in that direction - what else could she mean by 'our lot' - but all Nate had to do was imagine the look on Cian's face if he accidentally spoke about the guild to outsiders, and he knew he couldn't say anything.
"Vivi, mostly," he said. "Genevieve Albrecht, she runs the Snuggly Duckling? And I do work for Cian Wilde, from time to time." More than that, actually, but there wasn't any need to share further.
"Yes, I'm a machinist." Nate straightened up slightly, and placed his finished mug back behind its rack. One cup of coffee was plenty to wake him. "I make small self-managed gadgets, mainly using clockwork." He rummaged around in one of the lower pouches on the bandolier inside his coat, and came up with one of his tangle-bots. The fishing line had come unspooled slightly, and he absently coiled it back even as he held the little thing up to show the bard. Inactive, its tiny steering wings were still wrapped tight against the spherical body, the newly neatened bobbin with its three-pronged hook dangling underneath.
