somehow this turned into a confession of feelings she's only slowly starting to realise
She squeezed back, a small smile flickering across her face, then took a deep breath. "All right," she said.
"Well. I told you before, when I came back to Emillion, why I came back. I came back, and I never expected to see Kamon again, and then over the months I thought about him less and less, until I stopped." She looked down at their linked hands. Since she had messaged him earlier, she had been wondering where to begin telling him what had happened, but now she had started the words kept coming. "Tonight he came to see me. I opened the door, and he was there. I don't even know how he found out where I live. He wanted me to help him. Had the gall to come and ask me for help, after everything." She chuckled, wry. "I told him to leave. I know it was the right thing to do."
She paused, as though for a moment she was letting her last words sink in, to convince herself. "He said he was in trouble," she said. "But then again, I can't remember a time when he wasn't."
