While out in the forests, Eden was a fan of leather. It was soft, durable, and warm. She was happy to be able to shed the heavier winter stuff, but the leather still bound her from head to toe. Coming into the city, her clothes were confining in a different way, but her legs felt free beneath the fabric of the dress she donned.
She wasn't on duty, so there was no need to wear her uniform and she liked to put on different things. Today it was some light blue fabric, cinched at the waist with a brown band tightened by strings. It looked fancy to her in comparison to what she usually wore. Her feet were in plain brown slippers and she could feel the cobbles beneath her feet. It felt different to the earthen terrain outside the walls.
It wasn't just the streets, but the smell. The smells were so different. There wasn't a fresh scent in the city. It was all muggy and musty. She didn't think anyone really noticed it, the way the smell of oil and steel mixed with perfumes tended to mingle in an, if it weren't nostalgic might have been an offensive, odor. The woman always somehow ended up missing the smell of wet dirt. It was refreshing.
Basket hanging off her arm, she made her way through the market picking up little luxuries she hadn't been able to enjoy out on patrol. There were things you could forage for in season, but some of the magically insulated gardens provided so much more variety year round. It cost a little more, but she was more than happy to pay the price. She picked at the little baskets of strawberries before finding one she was pleased with. She passed the gil to the vendor and went about her way.
She didn't worry too much about washing them. She wasn't planning for them to last very long. There was just so much more shopping to do. She had passed a pretty hairpin in a store window a block or so back.
