pyr min solemnly swears he is up to no good (twinclaws) wrote in emillion, |
As Sky had predicted, after two helpings of takoyaki Pyr felt a lot more cheerful about his day. Yes, he’d been chicken and messed up by not signing his Namorados present to Ari―but she’d liked it, hadn’t she? And if he had signed and she hadn’t returned his gift, how could he have faced her again? No, maybe it wasn’t such a terrible thing. The weather was good, he’d run into a few friends, and Sky would be back with sweets for them both soon; it might yet turn into a good Howaito Dê. Pyr was waiting for Sky to return from his resource-gathering by the takoyaki stand, chatting with Ken (who seemed even cheerier than usual, probably due to the volume of business he was doing) when he spotted another familiar face: Juliette walking down the main street, seemingly by herself. He thought about the lunch he’d helped her sneak into Drake’s office, and realised that she was probably in the same boat he was (the whole point of sneaking around had been not to let Drake know who the cook was, after all). He said goodbye to Ken and made his way over to his friend. “Hey, Juli!” She turned at the sound of the nickname that only one person she knew would ever use (Alys was the only other person to shorten her name at all, but fortunately, Pyr had not yet come up with the bright idea of calling her Jules). Raising her hand to wave, she smiled slightly. Pyr looked energetic as always, and judging from his trajectory, he had been loitering by the takoyaki stand again. As much as Juliette enjoyed takoyaki, she just couldn’t understand how any one person could eat so much of it without getting sick of it (or perhaps, considering the cooking methods, just sick). When he had come closer, she asked, “Have you been released from your afternoon training as well?” Her Fridays were usually light, so she had somewhat guiltily resolved to enjoy the festival, though perhaps she would make it up with some time at the guildhall this weekend. The exam loomed closer every day. Still, in the end, she was a teenage girl, and she wasn’t immune to the draw of food and games and a bit of revelry, and this would be the last festival before her birthday and the moment of truth. “Yeah, I managed to sneak away.” He grinned. “I have a right to enjoy this festival so central to my culture. I’m Ordalian and I’m homesick and I think my instructor for the afternoon really wanted to not be at the guildhall anyway.” As he talked, he kept an eye on the crowds around them, watching for Sky’s return. Still, they were just across the street from the takoyaki stand; they wouldn’t be hard to find when he returned. He wanted to ask if Juliette had come by herself, and tried to phrase the question in a way that wouldn’t make it sound as though it was bad that she was alone. He wondered if she’d heard from Morgayne at all since the other squire had left the city. “Did you come with Rid or someone from the guild?” |
