Peony never felt her hume fallibility quite so keenly as she did the morning after a battle. Even when she had been lucky — and she had certainly been luckier this time than many others — with healing came the unavoidable pain of bone and muscle knitting back together and the fatigue of pushing her body far past its limit. Not the fittest of people at the best of times, she found getting up and around required an almost insurmountable quantity of energy. |
