Servants in the Palace of Lions had been milling about in anxiousness for this event through the past week, and those in Parliament had likewise taken their own preparations, having agreed with His Majesty to make the difficult but ultimately necessary decision in calling for aid. These had been difficult times, not just for the three prominent guilds but for the city structure entire, and had subsequently drained more of the city's resources and the palace's coffers than what ever might normally be expected. Hence it was that, after drawing through numerous available options, the King and the government had sounded the hesitant request for diplomatic assistance. Today it arrived by sky, as the brilliant airship Red Rose docked in the Aerodrome mid-morning. The following procession soon afterward had been easily recognizable through the city streets. Knights and mages wearing the emblem of a red dragon, coat of arms to the distant House of Limberry, a wealthy province in the furthest regions of northern Valendia, had marched around the opulent carriages in their charge in file after proud file. Nobles, the highly educated and well-traveled, and those connected to the upper echelons of government would have some inkling: the Duchess Akriel of Limberry had arrived with an obvious purpose, and an intent for a prolonged visit. Limberry was a notably rugged area of the north, and its people were of an ancient and wealthy lineage, taking much of their fortune from the vast mines in the nearby mountains. And true enough that the visitors seemed perfectly at ease in the chill winter weather. The captain of the knights, a mountain of a man in intricate samurai's armor, had pulled off his helmet at one point in the journey to speak with the passenger inside the largest carriage, and those lucky enough to catch a glimpse would see a woman with intense green eyes gesturing toward several of the city's most eye-catching monuments. Citizens of Emillion turned and watched as they passed through on their way to the palace, as curiosity and speculation permeated the crowds freely at the sight. |
