Who: Open!
What: The annual tri-guild battle tournament.
Where: A modified venue in the Theatre District.
When: Friday.
Rating: Expect violence.
Patrons lined the wintry street outside, each of them holding a ticket to what might very well be the viewing event of the season. While this particular showcase of the guilds and their respective talents was an annually planned event each year, the troubles of late had given this particular tournament a new and added purpose. The gil spent on each ticket would go towards funding reparations within the city, and thus, compelled even a greater audience. Citizens stood for hours outside the arena building, eager to join in on the excitement and offer a semblance of aid to those in need. As for the venue itself, the building that had once been a great theatre of old, but had since been heavily modified through the years to suit the purpose of the tournament. With boxes for the privileged and well-to-do, as well as a wide berth of bleachers for the general populace, the ring itself was housed in the center of the room, a large, sturdy construction that, with the added power of a magical paling, would keep all abilities locked tightly within its perimeters. The paling served too to protect the combatants, dampening all damage incurred to keep the show civilized for viewers, and safe from the infliction of serious mortal wounds. The guildmasters themselves were in attendance, after all, and they had long ago agreed on ensuring fairness within these walls. This tournament had long ago been devised to showcase the best the three guilds had to offer. At any other year, during times of peace and prosperity, this would have been the best chance many guild members would have to show their potential to the city. Considering the unusual occurrences of late, however, the terms of the tournament seemed to have greatly altered. But the audiences, it seemed, had not grown tired of watching the guilds in action, and had shown up that day in great amount, packing the venue and clamoring in excited voices for the next great show. |
