It had struck Seloria, in that moment, the truth of Juliette and Alys’ situation. While she understood they were under the care of Vivi, she had forgotten that they didn’t have a mother, nor father, to take care of their marital affairs. While Red’s mother had tried to set them up as a pair, the truth was that she also had to contact Lady Cassul in Kerwon and hope that the amiable relationship between the children would be enough to convince the woman to let them wed. She doubted Redwald actually wished to join her in the bonds of matrimony, so she only humored the woman in hopes to give the a fellow guild member (even if he was not aware of their kinship in that regard) some reprieve. “Yes, mothers are fearless when it comes to making a good match for their children,” she informed Juliette’s sister. “It’s always about the better deal. Which girl will make me look better? They’ll do almost anything to get what they want, especially when it involves money and station.” Alys was quite pretty, much like her sister. But she wasn’t Juliette. She wasn’t Juliette in a lot of ways. It was in the way she spoke and held herself. There was a confidence there that almost made up for the rough edges that slipped through. “Juliette is quite shy,” she said in support of Alys luring the men away from her sister. “It is kind of you take care of her in such a way.” The girl was clearly oblivious to her own beauty. It was endearing in it’s own way. “Of course,” she was quick to respond. “She’s my sister, what else could I do?” Audrey had been about to continue the conversation when a man stopped between them, interrupting their conversation. Inquiring Audrey for a dance, she frowned at Seloria apologetically. “I’m sorry, but you’re welcome to come to the guest house any time. We’d be happy to receive your company,” Audrey’s frown was replaced with a smile as she nodded at the girl. With a nod, she took the man’s hand as they walked back into the crowd, picking and flowing into the rhythm. |
