With her lips slightly parted, Audrey couldn’t help but marvel at the statues and intricacy of the palace. Audrey had never been to a place quite like this. Even the ballrooms had been awe inspiring to simply just look at. She had been ready to reach out and touch the statue, had it not been for a kingsguard nearby clearing his throat. Immediately she withdrew her hand. Utmost behavior, she repeated quietly, leaving the statue to admire a different one. Her walk through the cold gardens left her sitting on the side of a fountain. It was cold outside, but a much desired retreat from the crowds. Caspar hadn't expected the large door to land him outdoors, but he had not exactly been paying attention. Ten minutes of conversation with Lady ArrogantBlowHard (as he affectionately called her in his head) had been painful enough to make him want to fall on a gunblade, and that was before she had dragged her painfully awkward twelve year-old son to make an introduction. Caspar had made the fastest set of excuses he had ever invented and fled out the first door he saw, not caring where he ended up. The garden was surprise, but it was better than what he left behind. He spotted the figure sitting against the fountain almost immediately, and his feet found their way towards her before he could fully register who it was. "Hello, Audrey," he said with a grin, his mood improving all at once. "The climate inside not icy enough for you?" “Not nearly as much,” she replied, smirk growing at the source of the voice. Audrey leaned forward looking behind Caspar and the loud thud of the door he had left behind. Sitting back down, she raised her brow as she gazed up at him from her seat. “Running from someone—” The doors flew open and Audrey’s eyes widened as she saw a woman with a child storming out into the garden. Her eyes immediately darted to Caspar with a perplexed look before grabbing his hand and pulling him along. Going deeper into the garden, she pulled him behind a hedge wall, out of sight of the woman. “Really? Single mothers now?” Caspar followed as he was pulled, still stunned by the fact that Lady ArrogantBlowHard had followed him outside. He peered around the corner of the hedgewall, before quickly ducking back towards Audrey. "Oh, like you're surprised," he grinned, willing to play along with any lightheartedness Audrey threw his way. "I only mind this one because she's looking to marry her son to me. I suppose it is possible that she hopes I will take him on as a squire, but really, I think it is marriage. I can see it in her eyes." He tilted his head towards the edge of the hedgewall, "go on, have a look for yourself. You'll see." Halfway through his explanation, Audrey already had her arms crossed over her chest with a reprimanding look in her eyes. A long, deliberate sigh later, Audrey had rolled her eyes and leaned over Caspar to get a good look at the woman though her eyes didn’t stay on her for very long. Frown pulling on her lips, she remained leaning over him. “He’s just a little boy,” she whined, lips forming into a pout before throwing herself back and looking at him. “You need to not prey on older women with children. That’s terrible.” Caspar allowed himself to enjoy the feel of her body leaning across his, even if he did not show it. "I think you mean they need to not prey on me. I know he's a little boy, but it's not my fault she's forgotten. I left for my sake and his." He paused, cocked his head to the side and grinned. "But tell me this, Audrey. What's wrong with single mothers? Women with children need just as much love as the rest of us. If you let me make an introduction, you shall be able to see for yourself." |
