There was no time to think about it -- perhaps if she had, Juliette would not have acted as she did on impulse. There were warnings about trying this sort of thing -- she was not a knight -- she lacked the durability -- but as the spell formed and she realized she would not manage to yank Perdita out of the way a second time, all she could think to do was to jump in front of it.
It was as though an invisible fist slammed into the base of her spine; with a scream she couldn't contain, she fell to the cobbles, barely managing to break her fall with her hands and keep her forehead from slamming into the stone too, though she felt the impact all the way up her arms.
