"Synergists are handy like that," he said thinking of his old assistant. "Good to know you were well enough to last it, though." It meant that her recovery was well under it's way. "I am doing as well as can be expected. Actual sleep, regular meals and bathing habits restored." One tended to forget those things when they were focused. "My fiance is much happier with me not neglecting her as well."
Ofelia laughed, a clear and bell-like sound that she didn’t often left slip. “So I can imagine. When tending to an entire city, there’s not much time left over or personal – or marital – comfort.”
“The city should stop needing tending to,” the doctor said with a frown. “It’s like it’s something new every week. It’s getting ridiculous.” Sure there had been that huge lull, but the crazy came back in full force.
“Agreed. There’s hardly any time to get my own work done, between the madness. I still find time for some diversions, though. Suppose I’ll see you there next time, now that we’re both recovered?” Her head tilted.
“I look forward to it, Miss Zhou,” the mage said with a nod to the lady. “And also to claiming your well-earned gil.”
Ofelia’s face creased, an exaggerated and joking wince of distaste. “Pride cometh before the fall, Hier—isn’t that what all the Pharists are saying?”
“I couldn’t tell you. I tend to doze somewhere between ‘today’s sermon is titled’ and ‘let us pray’,” which was the entire sermon. While he didn’t sleep, he definitely checked out. “However, I’ll let you know what I find out when we meet again.” With that, he looked over her shoulder and nodded to someone. “If you’ll excuse me.” And his shoulders tightened slightly as he wandered toward the small circle of people not too far off.
