“You built it?” The fact that she was impressed would be easy to read on her face; at best, she had thought some new technological advance had been modified by the woman, but by the way she spoke, it really seemed as though she was the hoverboard’s designer and creator. Juliette found herself relaxing slightly as well, now that the conversation was flowing with greater ease -- she always appreciated people who were willing to talk at length -- it kept her from having to come up with things to say, and often provided insight to those with whom she was conversing, allowing her to better adjust to the interaction. As much as she was reserved, she did find herself fond of carefree individuals such as Morgayne, who could seize on a topic so effortlessly. The offer, though, took her a bit aback. “I… if you are certain,” she said, attempting to hold back her eagerness at the prospect. “I would not wish to damage something so unique, but….. I do have good balance, generally speaking.” Already, she was building the argument for why the idea had merit. She was not a great aficionado of technology, but she was also a young, active girl -- how could she resist such a curious plaything? “If we meet again in the park, perhaps?” she said, hopefully. “Boris and Ratchet may wish to play fetch together again.” “Yup!” The time which it took her would be another matter altogether. The fact that she had so few major creations at her age was sort of…. Disappointing at best. “It’s my favorite invention so far too, makes getting around the city a lot easier.” By now, a sincere smile had stretched across her face. Talking about inventions, and how they functioned was easily one of her favorite things. “Sure!” Another chirped response was easy. “It’s pretty sturdy, and if it breaks, that’s okay, I can fix it.” And the tone of her voice, her posture, and body language would back up the easy statement. Clearly, the idea of something being broken was the least of the machinist’s worries. “The park would be good! Plenty of open space to test things out and get a good feel for it, and it’ll give the boys some room to stretch their legs too.” Quite frankly, Riyeko considered this to be one of the best ideas she’d heard in quite some time. “Is there a day that’s better for you?” “I take Boris running most mornings, before my lessons start,” she said. “Not always to the Commoners’ District park, but the route is not a matter of concern.” The Nobles’ District with its wide tree-lined avenues and small, cultivated green spaces was more convenient, but for something like this, she would gladly go out of her way. How often would she have such an opportunity, after all? Any of the other squires would have similarly jumped at it, she was quite certain. “If you tell me which day is convenient, I will make certain to be there.” “Oh!” Someone to test her hoverboard, not that it really needed testing at this point, was a great idea. Though, at the same time, this easily could just be the beginning of something much larger in the end. Really, Riyeko needed more than one person to test her Rocket Boots still too. “I take Ratchet for a walk to the park we met in every morning. It’s his favorite.” There was a brief pause before she began again. “Um, how does next Friday sound?” That certainly, should give her enough time to get things easily straightened out. “It sounds perfect.” Juliette returned the smile, feeling considerably better about the evening at large -- and excited about the prospect. “I will be there,” she promised. It seemed that hiding out in corners could occasionally lead to unexpectedly good luck. |
