Sir Aldous Renfeld had first attributed his exhaustion to unexpectedly being thrust into a grueling double-shift, hours spent patrolling around the district on little food and rest. From sundown to sunrise, he had marched around the streets and alleys, wandering by drunken men loitering outside the inns and herding them away before they caused any serious trouble. Nothing strange, nothing terribly out of the ordinary. By the time he was relieved by the next peacekeeper, the knight had shuffled his way into the guildhall feeling even worse than he had half a day before. Seasonal sickness, that's what they had been talking about on the network of late, he thought dismissively. Nothing that a good rest and hot meal couldn't fix, but as he sat down on one of the changing room benches to finally shift his way out of his heavy armor, Aldous let his head droop, his eyes close, and when the other knights came into the room nearly an hour later, he had fallen asleep and drifted onto the floor. Feverish, the other fighters quickly dragged him off to the nearest healing station. To the man's eventual dismay, once Sir Aldous awakened, he had quickly found himself discharged of duties, as the white mage advised his superior officer to allow him a few days to rest and recuperate. Sullen and disappointed, the knight could do little more than allow himself to be taken back home. |
