"Oh, you know," Ari said. "I'm just so generous tonight, I can hardly stand myself. But have it your way." She took the proffered drink back and sipped at it once more.
"Always trying," she corrected. "It doesn't seem to work very well, which makes you an exception to the rule." In some ways, it was probably what kept her coming back - things that were too easy did not keep her interest for long.
"My metaphor was too well-suited not to use," she disagreed. "Although, if I keep drinking, it seems somewhat likely that I will be entirely incapable of metaphors shortly. I hope you won't think less of me."
